April 27th - 29th, 2018
The 2018 LRR Excursion is perfect for paddlers wishing to have an overnight small boat adventure! The skill level of past participants ranges from beginner to advanced. The LRR Excursion offers just enough support to keep an otherwise difficult event fun and enjoyable. The Edisto River has a 3 mile per hour current assisting paddlers downstream on the first half of the course. There is a checkpoint at the half way point staffed by LRR volunteers where participants can choose to camp overnight. Tidal currents can assist participants on the second half of the course, resulting in fast completion times for a 60 mile course.
The LRR Excursion is an approximately 60 mile paddle down the beautiful Edisto River to Edisto Beach. Past participants have successfully completed the LRR Excursion course in small sailboats, kayaks, canoes and paddleboards (SUP). This is a timed mass start expedition style event meaning each participant's time of completion is recorded.
The cost of entry is $125 for boat and captain plus $75 for each additional crew member in the boat. We encourage you to register early so that you do not miss the April 7th registration deadline. Entries after April 7th will be $150 per participant. The absolute last day for registration is April 26. There will be no registration on race day.
LRR Excursion (60 miles)
The LRR Excursion course is along the Edisto River. The Edisto river gets its name from the black colored water of the river. The native american name for the river was 'Adusta', meaning dark or black. Over time the pronunciation and spelling evolved to Edisto.
The Edisto is a beautiful and relatively narrow blackwater river at the start of the LLR Excursion. As it winds its way towards the sea, the river passes historic rice plantations and transitions into a tidal estuary rich in marine life near the coast.
